REMEMBER LIVE MUSIC? Remember feeling a connection to an artist and to their body of work and the thrill of belonging when they sing your song and high of discovery when they sing a new one? Last night I got to see my girl Brandi Carlile at the Greek theater and it was just about as healing as it gets. By my girl I of course mean I pretend we’re friends and that I go to her house for barbecues, tho she DID record a song for my Oklahoma pilot, so we basically have matching friendship bracelets? Her vacation Bible school country folk-rock songs of love and frustration and rage FEED ME, her harmonies remind me that there are beautiful parts of humanity that can’t be touched by politics. I AM FULL. These lyrics have never resonated more:
Let ’em laugh while they can
Let ’em spin, let ’em scatter in the wind
I have been to the movies, I’ve seen how it ends
And the joke’s on them
