this week’s argument with myself

argument.jpg

I wouldn’t dare call it EPIC like the epic not-staged argument pictured above, which obviously concerns something actually epic like um, the constitution or property or horses or pie or wolves.

But I have been wondering /thinking a lot …..I write a lot of personal statements / artistic goal things, for applications for various grants / fellowships etc. I always stumble through these, because I feel like I don’t have this grand artistic agenda. I just love writing plays and think I write stuff that people like to work on and like to see, and perhaps make people feel understood or shine a little light on something. That’s it. I don’t have this epic cause or goal. But should I have to? I don’t need an agenda, right? Agendas are for Senators! Businessmen! Prom Queens!

But then my self goes, why do something if you don’t know why you’re doing it? Right? If you don’t have a goal, you’re sort of spinning in circles or space. Perhaps  what I actually NEED an agenda. Perhaps that is the next step in my maturation, being more AWARE of what I’m doing and why I’m doing it.

…So who’s right? Me? …or Me?
