Joe is growing increasingly, terrifyingly smart, like he can say many many things and seems to always know what we’re talking about, even when we don’t. As we teach him about the world, we’re constantly asking him questions to grow his brain. What color is that car? and How many trees are there? and Do you see the house over there? and Remember when you ate a banana? He must think we’re idiots. I wonder if he worries about us. Why don’t they know what colors things are?! Why do I have to tell them?! The banana is yellow, he tells us patiently, saving us from the unknown. I really need to get taller fast, he thinks, so that I can take care of them.
