As long as it’s Cold

When I arrived in Maryland, way back when on January 6th, I was delighted to see that everyone still had their Christmas decorations up, if not perplexed. Driving to rehearsal on January 7, and 8 and 9 and 10, each day I thought, today, they will come down. The weekend after New Year’s? Nope. Still up. So I raised the question with a few of the local actors: When do people in Maryland take their decorations down? The answer: AS LONG AS IT’S COLD, THEY STAY UP. I’m talking February. I’m talking MARCH. APRIL?! Screw it. MAY? Sure. Take them down for the first two weeks of July, and then put them right back up? Definitely. Why not. Because says who? Says When? SHOULD WE ALL BE MARYLAND?
