a slow change

I was listening to this Merle song on the drive into work this AM:

If we make it through December
Every thing’s gonna be all right, I know
It’s the coldest time of winter
And I shiver when I see the falling snow

If we make it through December
Got plans to be in a warmer town, come summer time
Maybe even California
If we make it through December, we’ll be fine

…And I thunk to myself: since when is December the coldest time of Winter? Isn’t it February and March, if very cold even at all? Was this ever true in my lifetime? Or is it true in other parts of the country? Or did it just used to be true, and no longer is? Merle released this song in 1974. Is this very song proof of slow but traceable climate change over the last 50 years? Am I over thinking it? Oh wait Is that a cop? I should probably slam on my brakes and then drive 35 miles an hour the rest of the way up the 5 oh wait it’s Tim’s birthday I should call him okay he’s not answering, is that a blowpop in the middle of the road? I live in California now, weird. Oh wait so CLIMATE CHANGE.
