I’ve been reading these short stories and I gotta say, my favorite thing about his writing (same with Oscar Wao) is how he finds profundity in the way that quote un quote uneducated, quote un quote unintelligent people communicate. ‘Simple’ people. In fact, his characters are supremely emotionally perceptive in a way that’s realer than a lot of us silly college grads could ever muster. It’s a good lesson in how to keep your characters talking like they do, without inserting yourself into their language. Since I am not the kind of person nor could I ever write the kind of character who is extremely articulate and good at arguing a point, I think I officially feel more at home among the simpletons who more deeply observe the world. In other news, HI EASTER!
