Children’s Science, for Adults

An unexpected day off work thrust me straight into the arms of the California Science Center, where I and about 700 first graders learned about digestion, earthquakes, energy conservation, open heart surgery, ecosystems, 1001 inventions that Muslims have contributed to civilization, and most importantly, HOW AIRPLANES FLY.

Myself and the said 700 first graders peered into space capsules, donned simulated airplane wings and stood against wind and learned about lift, watched the Wright Brothers take their first flight, lifted and dipped the nose of this fighter jet,

And lastly, we hung out with this talking refrigerator which, with its strange plastic foods, schooled us on the food groups.

I departed feeling educated, 9 years old, and starving for graham crackers; apple slices.
