I’ve said this many times before but I thought I’d go ahead and take to the internet about it and make it REAL.
I really hate it when someone calls my writing ‘Quirky.’ They usually don’t mean anything derogatory by it, and I’m genuinely talking to no one in particular, but you might as well be telling me that my crappy homemade cupcakes are adorable and yes they do look like little cats, t’aint that sweet, then you secretly spit it back into your napkin. I rarely get bra burny, but I really feel like Quirky is used a lot to describe women, or things written by women, where as if a dude did it, it would just be straight up funny. I hear Quirky and I take it as emotionally false, idiotic, but ‘cute.’ The success of the New Girl (which I LOVE) is perhaps making me hate the word a tiny bit less, but still, I’m sensitive to it. So like, stop calling me Quirky, or I’ll tell you ‘look like you’re having a lot of fun up there.’
