Or: when Pretty Girls do Bad Things

Okay, this movie is super beautiful and thought provoking, but my one non-spoiler comment: it’s kind of odd to watch someone so beautiful have such a bad time. It’s nearly distracting. I mean, this movie’s heroine (and co-writer I think?) is so stinking pretty, it’s hard to buy a lot of her less than pretty girl activities. It’s like, I feel for you and things, but stop your moping because clearly, you could model. I couldn’t help but wonder how different the movie would be with like, a normal looking person. Or is her beauty part of the tragedy of her experience? Is it meant to make it MORE tragic?
