This is not a complaint, just an observation. I am just as guilty of this as any. In happens in NYC or Brooklyn or maybe any large-ish city that it is nearly impossible to get anyone to do anything, socially that is. Or at least, there’s no guarantee. Because: it’s never what am I doing tonight? it’s what am I not doing tonight? Therefore, when we are extended an invite to something, knowing well that we can’t go because we have committed ourselves to another thing, we say, I will try and come, to keep our options open in case one ends up being more convenient or fun than the other. We are non-committal. In a city of endless options, I couldn’t help but wonder*, how do we ever manage to do anything at all?
* SATC and I don’t care who knows it!
