Joe is excited for the Thanksgiving feast, he says he wants to eat turkey. At Bobbie’s Montessori Friendsgiving potluck, he sits off to the side like a starving sailor, eating it with his hands. He wants to make turkey cupcakes, he’s thankful for it, he wants to know where Turkey comes from. I tell him it’s a bird. It breaks his brain. He considers. He remembers feeding a turkey once in a neighbors’ yard, which in fact was a peacock, which is who makes mom’s show. He doesn’t want to eat the bird he once fed in the neighbor’s yard, his brain is a swirl of new tastes and information. He digs through a treat bag for a lollipop instead, mystery flavored, which prompts zero questions, as it just takes like mystery.
